Art Is Looking for a New Home!
For 40 years, I lived and worked at a studio in Venice Beach. 100s of evenings, I strolled a block west to see a panoramic view from this favorite haunt just north of Venice Pier.
I first painted this scene looking north across Santa Monica Bay in the 80s. I created this latest rendition in 2025. This is my most recent painting of this wonderful perspective.
I'm delighted that this painting has found a new home with a longtime Venice art collector who already owns one of my canal paintings.
As I prepare to leave California and begin a new chapter back East, every sale helps me take another step toward my next adventure. Thank you!

Evening Light on Retro Canal
I am preparing to move cross-country, so local pickup or delivery is preferred. If shipping is required, please contact me. Thank you!
This was among my earliest Venice nightscapes. It was inspired by hundreds of sunset strolls along the historic canals. I painted the original this print was based on in the early 80s, when the era of major developments in the canals first started, and rows of cottages like those I painted here began to vanish.
Evening Light on Retro Canal was one of two of my paintings chosen by representatives of Disney/ABC to be displayed on the set of the popular television show Black-ish, which aired for eight seasons.

"Nobody's out of place in Venice," observed a brilliant screenwriter and a dear old friend and neighbor, Ronald Shusett.
His accurate and warm sentiments reflect much of my work as an artist. They are the guiding spirit behind the painting Family Values — Venice Style.
In this simple painting, I worked to capture the colorful, playful celebration of the unconventional characters, personalities, and lifestyles that make Venice Beach, California, unlike anywhere else.
With a touch of humor and a uniquely Venice attitude, I hoped to capture the free-spirited, anything-goes atmosphere of a place I called home for decades.
Abbot Kinney — Man for All Ages

Canvas Print | 16 x 32 x 1-1/4 | $75.00
On July 4, 2005, Venice turned 100 Years old. In my neighborhood, we celebrated the centennial by rocking the Historic Venice Canals!
We threw a block party called The Venice Beat Ball & Beyond to pay tribute to the Beat Generation and the Flower Children of the 1960s.
Neighbors and friends collaborated to cook, create, paint, perform live music and recreate a festive day in the Summer of Love.
As part of the colorful festivities, I created prints that featured Venice founder Abbot Kinney as a Beatnik. I discovered I still have a few of those left.

Different Strokes — Venice Style

Just a short stroll from my old Venice studio, near Lifeguard Station 27, the beach attracted everybody: the beautiful people, the not-so-beautiful people, the fashionable, the eccentric, and the gloriously ordinary.
This original acrylic painting captures a slice of that colorful beach life beneath the hazy sunshine of a Southern California summer.
I painted it during a particularly hectic stretch after selling four paintings in a single day at a local Venice exhibition. Suddenly, I needed four new paintings—and fast!
The result is a spontaneous, playful impression of the Venice Beach I knew and loved.

For 40 years, I lived a short walk from the Venice Canals. Old wood cottages, graceful bridges, and shimmering reflections provided endless inspiration.
In this painting, I portray a quieter Venice, before the neighborhood became one of the most desirable addresses in Los Angeles.
In a bustling metropolis of several million people, I often strolled blocks without passing a soul, or rounded a corner to encounter a pair of mallards.
There's something timeless about this little corner of Venice, where even the ducks seem to appreciate the scenery.
